Your First Visit To Dr. Beale's Office

On your first visit to Dr. Beale's office, you will be greeted at the front desk and given medical history, social history, and family history forms to complete and a urine specimen cup. Then your height, weight, and blood pressure will be measured by the medical assistant. You will be placed in a comfortable examination room where you will put on a warm cloth gown. The medical assistant will draw your blood, and perform an electrocardiogram. Dr. Beale will come into the room with a chaperone and discuss with you the forms that you have filled out with special emphasis on any medical problems that you may have and any medications that you may be on. (Note that since Dr. Beale is a licensed, experienced physician, he can help you lose weight no matter what other medical conditions you may have or what medications that you are now on or may have been on in the past.) Dr. Beale will perform a physical examination which does not include a pelvic, rectal, or genital examination since those areas are beyond the scope of a weight loss program. After these tasks are finished, you will be given literature to read before your next visit. On your first visit, you should be prepared to be in the office for 90 minutes.

Your Second Visit To Dr. Beale's Office

Your second visit to Dr. Beale's office can be from one to seven days after your first visit depending on your schedule. After your weight and blood pressure have been taken, you will be placed in a consultation room where Dr. Beale will discuss your physical examination results, your laboratory results, your diet plan, your medication plan, and your goals. He will answer all questions at this time. He will remind you that you are not expected to have any side effects either from the medication, the diet, or the injection. He will emphasize that you have his home telephone number and his cellular telephone number to call him later if you think of another question to ask. He will hand you your weight loss medications which may include appetite suppressants (diet pills), vitamins, iron, potassium, and diuretics (fluid pills). You will then get an injection and that will end this office visit. The total time can be from 15 to 25 minutes depending on the complexity of your medical situation and the number of questions that you may have.

Subsequent Weight Loss Office Visits

Each office visit should be seven days after the preceding office visit. After having your weight and blood pressure checked, you will be placed in a consultation room where you will get an injection. You will then consult with either Dr. Beale, Ms. Beale, Mrs. Leavy, or Dr. Laster. When you are losing weight on time with no problems, then you will continue the same program for the following week. However, if there are concerns or problems, adjustments will be made in the diet or medications or both so that you can continue to lose weight on schedule. As you lose weight, especially if you have over 40 pounds to lose, your body can get used to a diet and the diet would have to be changed so that you can continue to lose weight. The diet that gets rid of the first 20 pounds, may not work for the second 20 pounds. Also your body can get used to a certain diet pill and it would have to be increased in strength in order to continue to work.

Maintenance Visits

After you have lost all of the weight that you wish, you will be placed on a maintenance plan so that you will not regain any weight. A person usually makes from six to eight maintenance visits per year.

Sadly my father was killed in an automobile accident on November 13, 2004. He was a weight loss pioneer for over 30 years and I am proud that we have been able to continue his legacy of caring. This site was designed by my father and so I have left it as when he was alive.  To hear his voice about our program, please call our recorded message 202-889-4489.  For a little more insight into the man that Dr. Beale was, you may read Thoughts From Daddy's Little Girl.  Please feel free to call me directly at the office if you have any questions or concerns.
